Carinata, a crop that has been gaining interest throughout the southeast, is being tested in many farming fields in Florida. Jerod Jones, a young farmer in Santa Rosa County, managed to sow the plant that survived the bitter Christmas temperatures in Allentown.

This winter crop could be successfully planted with other summer crops like cotton, beans, or sorghum. This event is a good opportunity to learn more about utilizing carinata as a cover crop, carinata BMPs, production considerations, and market/contract updates.
