Bob Hope Village Community Center Renovation Complete with Focus on Fitness, Wellness, and Conveniences for Residents
Ribbon Cutting and Grand Reopening Set for October 16
Shalimar, Florida (October 1, 2019)–The Air Force Enlisted Village (AFEV) will celebrate the reopening of the Bob Hope Village community center, also known as The Commons, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 16, 2019 at 9 a.m.

The 32-year-old structure underwent a $3.3 million renovation that took place in two phases starting in February 2017 and ending this month.

Phase 1 of the renovation included a 2,500 sq. ft. addition that is home to the Kellogg Fitness Center which focuses on fitness and wellness programs for Bob Hope Village residents. The center includes a room filled with new cardio and weight training equipment funded by a grant from United Services Automobile Association (USAA) and a fitness classroom with an on-demand service featuring all types of group work out classes such as yoga, Zumba, aerobics, and seated exercises. Noelker and Hull Associates, Inc. served as the architects for phase 1 with Bear General Contractors, LLC as the contractor. Phase 1 was completed in December 2018.

Phase 2 of the renovation started July 2018 and included a modern renovation of the existing ballroom, lobby, administrative office space, the Gaughan Library, hair/nail salon, café, convenience store, and swimming pool area. AFEV received a $1 million grant from the Air Force Aid Society for phase 2. DC Architects served as the architects for the project with GLC Contracting as the contractor.

Funding for this project was provided by grants, a capital campaign, and naming opportunities.

Enter at 30 Holly Avenue, continue straight on Binnicker Way, and park at the Bob Hope Village Commons parking lot.

Event will take place in front of the Bob Hope bust. (In case of rain, the ceremony will take place inside Community Center.)  Seating is limited.

An “open house” will be held immediately following the ceremony.
