BRACE Kicks Off Northwest Florida Advanced Citizen Corps Academy
    Uniting Communities Preparing the Nation

Pensacola, Fla. – Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies (BRACE) will unite communities through education, training, and volunteer service to better prepare families to respond in times of emergencies and disasters through its annual Northwest Florida Advanced Citizen Corps Academy.  Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies will host its annual Northwest Florida Advanced Citizen Academy on February 19-21, 2021.

The Academy will provide volunteers with a well-rounded and robust training experience consisting of seminars and hands-on exercises relating to National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS), medical triage, disaster psychology, first aid, counterterrorism, active shootings, communication systems, access and functional need support services (FNSS), and more. Citizen Corps volunteers have served in times of emergencies, such as Hurricane Ivan, the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, the April 2014 floods, the 2016 damaging tornadoes in Century and Pensacola, and Hurricane Michael.

“The Northwest Florida Advanced Citizen Corps Academy is a great opportunity to participate in a variety of disaster training classes. Many are rarely offered in the area. The Academy will also provide volunteers and staff from organizations throughout the region a chance to train together in ‘blue skies,’ in anticipation of working together in a time of disaster or another emergency,” said Michelle Luckett, BRACE CEO.

Located at the Escambia County Public Safety, 6575 North W Street in Pensacola, the admission is FREE but registration is required. To register, applicants should go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/northwest-florida-advanced-citizen-corps-academy-tickets-136292264833

For those individuals traveling 50 miles or greater, BRACE is able to provide FREE hotel accommodations for the first 22 people who register. If local attendees would like to stay at a hotel, At Home Inn & Suites and Luxury Suites are available at two different rates of $69 or $79 per night. BRACE is grateful for the financial support of Escambia County Emergency Management and Gulf Power Foundation.

BRACE is excited to announce that instructors will include representatives from Santa Rosa County Emergency Management, American Red Cross of Northwest Florida, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Escambia County Search and Rescue, and SAFER Santa Rosa.
