    Event Description:
    Gulf Islands National Seashore, in partnership with the Walton Guard, will host a living history event Monday, May 29 at Fort Pickens in celebration of Memorial Day.

    Rangers and volunteers will present special programs about soldiers stationed at the fort during the Civil War as well as commemorative programs for Memorial Day. 

    All programs are free and open to the public.

    In honor of all fallen United States service members, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 11, 1950, as Memorial Day, national day for the people of the United States to observe and unite in peace.  The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe, in their own way, the National Moment of Remembrance.
