    Local Technology Planning Team Meeting

The Santa Rosa Local Technology Planning Team will hold a meeting in the Santa Rosa County Extension Auditorium, 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton, on Wed., Jun. 15 at 1:00 p.m. This meeting is open to the public.

The Santa Rosa County Local Technology Team will begin a series of public meetings designed to create an initial assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of internet speeds and services across the county. The state of Florida’s Office of Broadband, created in 2020, has asked each county in Florida to complete an assessment of its strengths and weaknesses by interviewing industry sector representatives and residents from unserved and underserved areas.

The legislative requirement is for the team to include representatives from the education, library, agriculture, health, business, industry, public safety, tourism, and local internet service provision sectors. This initial meeting will include introductions, a discussion of potential funding, and consensus-building centered around the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s (DEO) Broadband Planning Toolkit. Additionally, initial suggestions for potential project areas will be included and shared with the public. The public is welcome and encouraged to participate. For more information, email grants@santarosa.fl.gov.

May we please hear from you and your neighbor?

This survey is part of the Santa Rosa County Local Technology Planning Team’s effort to assess the condition of internet access and reliable internet service for all the residents and businesses of Santa Rosa County. Our primary goal is to identify “unserved” and underserved” areas of the county to determine a plan for getting better internet services to our residents and businesses.

Have a person in your household/business who is 18 years or older and makes household/business decisions about your internet services complete the survey. Invite your neighbors to take the survey as well. We invite all residents/businesses to complete this survey by July 15.

DEO has developed Florida’s Broadband Availability Map and internet speed test to identify and assist in gathering more data about the state’s broadband internet service availability. Find both the map and speed test at www.FloridaJobs.org/Broadband or take the speed test now online. Residents are encouraged to complete the test at home and at work. Data collected help with applying for grants or funding that may become available in the future to improve internet service countywide.

Santa Rosa County adheres to the American Disabilities Act and will make reasonable modifications and accommodations for access to these hearings upon request. Requests may be made to the county’s risk management department at 850-983-1863, TTY 711, or melissal@santarosa.fl.gov.
